Description

Tryptophan is an essential amino acid that cannot be synthesized by the human or animal body and must be obtained through diet or supplementation. Naturally present in foods such as seeds, eggs, fish, meat, and soy products, it is also produced synthetically through bacterial fermentation of raw materials. Tryptophan plays a critical role in the proper functioning of the nervous and immune systems and is a precursor for the production of serotonin and melatonin. The optimal Lysine-to-Tryptophan ratio in high-quality animal diets ranges from 15 to 24%, ensuring balanced nutrition. In its active L-Tryptophan form, it supports efficient biological functions.

Technical aspects

Tryptophan is typically available as an odorless, colorless, or yellowish-white crystalline powder. It is poorly soluble in water but dissolves well in fats, making it suitable for various feed formulations and industrial applications. In feed, it supports reproductive health, neurological functions, and stress management, thanks to its involvement in serotonin and melatonin production. For industrial applications, Tryptophan is used in the synthesis of specialized products such as nutritional supplements, pharmaceutical intermediates, and chemical formulations requiring high purity and bioavailability.
