Description

Sorbitol is an organic compound commonly used as a sugar substitute in the food industry. It is derived from the reduction of glucose and naturally occurs in fruits, especially dried ones, though it is most often extracted from potato starch. Sorbitol provides a sweet taste with fewer calories than sugar and is frequently used in sugar-free products, as well as in candies, baked goods, and beverages.

Technical aspects

Sorbitol is a white, odorless crystalline powder or viscous liquid, highly soluble in water (70g per 100mL at 20°C). It is stable under normal storage conditions but is sensitive to moisture and extreme temperatures. It maintains stability across a wide pH range, making it suitable for various food applications.

Storage

The shelf life of Sorbitol is two years. Packs should be stored in a cool dry place.
